Team Glow is mainly riding on the road. For your first introductory rides, any bike that is road worthy is fine. Child seats, basket and chunky tyres are okay for this stage in your cycling career. Roadworthy means the bike must be completely safe for use: chain oiled, brakes working well and tyres checked.
Non-members are invited to come along for a couple of rides before becoming a member - please let us know you are coming first - due to popularity some ride leaders like to limit the number of riders - details are on Meet Up.
Ride sensibly and observe the Highway Code - just common sense, we want everyone to have a good time and be safe too.;
In the winter, fit some mudguards - keeps both you and anyone near you clean!
Carry ID with you - here is suggestion for a DIY contact card. .
Cycling helmets - All Team Glow riders are asked to wear one.
Team Glow has CTC Insurance cover for ride leaders - this covers our ride leaders in the event of a claim arising from our own negligence. A ride leader seeking to rely on the insurance must be a paid member. Here are some useful CTCFAQ's.
Participation in an event assumes you have agreed to our terms and conditions before coming on a ride.
Suitable clothing makes riding easier;
Thin layers are better than one thick one;
Waterproof/wind proof jacket;
If you can, avoid using a rucksack - they can unbalance you and make it hard to turn your head to check traffic etc.
Eat breakfast before you set out;
Bring a snack for the ride (e.g. energy bar);
Bring a drink (water is fine);
It is useful to have a card with name with emergency numbers (just in case!) or write contact details in your helmet.
